<p> <a href="/content/nl/home-nl.html">Nederlands</a> Averbode, jaren 1900... in die tijd al van heinde en verre bekend als toeristische trekpleister omwille van zijn rust. Averbode, zijn abdij, bos en hei! Averbode en onmiddellijke omgeving tellen vandaag nog steeds vele duizenden hectaren beschermd natuurgebied. <br> <br> Te midden van deze natuurgebieden bouwden dhr. Leopold Govaerts en zijn vrouw, Marie-Josephine Houbrechts, in 1903 hun kasteel.<br> Dhr. Govaerts verdiende zijn fortuin door handel te drijven in houten stutpalen die hij in Wallonië en Noord-Frankrijk aankocht en verkocht aan de steenkoolmijnen in Limburg om de schachten van de mijnen te stutten.<br> Hun levensgeluk duurde echter niet lang, want op jonge leeftijd, als vader van 1 kind, werd hij tijdens een zakenreis naar Wallonië vermoord. Roofmoord. Zijn levenloze lichaam werd in de Maas teruggevonden. Zijn zwangere vrouw bleef kort nadien in het kinderbed van hun tweede kind. Jozef en Florentine bleven als peuter en baby alleen achter. Een familielid ving hen op en voedde hen op in het kasteel.<br> Jozef, Heer van het kasteel Heyde dijck, bleef jongman en woonde zijn leven lang op het kasteel, samen met zijn meid "Sofie".<br> <br> Florentine huwde met een architect uit Hasselt en ook hun huwelijk bleef kinderloos.<br> In 1965 werd het nagenoeg 20 hectare grote park dat aan het kasteel lag, verkaveld; vandaag telt het nog 6.400 vierkante meter.<br> Nadat Jozef overleed, erfde Florentine het kasteel en zij verkocht het in 1985 aan een Fransman die het kasteel gedurende 21 jaar bewoonde. <br> Bij zijn pensionering keerde hij terug naar zijn Franse roots en werd dit prachtige kasteel dat zich nog steeds in oorspronkelijke staat bevond, gekocht door Joris en Marie-Josée Van den Bruel – Wouters. Zij besloten anderen de mogelijkheid te geven om mee te genieten van dit prachtige pand en zijn prachtige omgeving door het openen van een gastenverblijf. <br> <br> Wij nodigen u dan ook graag uit om in een echt gezellige familiale sfeer, in pure nostalgie naar de jaren 1900, een weekje, midweek of weekend door te brengen op Kasteel Heyde dijck. <br> <br> Van harte WELKOM. </p> <p> <a href="/content/fr/home-fr.html">Français</a> Averbode, années 1900... déjà connue par monts et par vaux comme lieu de villégiature touristique pour sa quiétude. Averbode, son abbaye, ses forêts et ses landes ! Averbode et ses environs immédiats comptent aujourd'hui encore plusieurs milliers d'hectares de zone naturelle protégée. <br> <br> C'est en plein cœur de cette zone naturelle que M. Leopold Govaerts et son épouse, Marie Josephine Houbrechts ont construit leur château en 1903.<br> M. Govaerts tirait sa fortune du commerce du bois de soutènement qu'il achetait en Wallonie et dans le Nord de la France et qu'il vendait aux mines de charbon du Limbourg pour étayer les galeries de mines.<br> Malheureusement, leur bonheur ne dura pas longtemps puisqu'il fut, encore jeune et père d'un enfant, assassiné lors d'un voyage d'affaires en Wallonie. C'était un crime crapuleux : son corps sans vie a été retrouvé dans la Meuse. Sa femme, enceinte, mourut en couches en donnant naissance à leur deuxième enfant. Les deux très jeunes enfants, Joseph et Florentine, se retrouvèrent seuls au monde. Un membre de leur famille les recueillit et les éleva au château. Joseph, Maître du Château de Heyde dijck resta célibataire et passa toute sa vie au château, en compagnie de sa bonne 'Sofie'. <br> <br> Florentine épousa un architecte de Hasselt et n'eut pas d'enfant.<br> En 1965, le grand parc qui comptait quelque 20 hectares, fut loti. Aujourd'hui, le parc compte encore 6400 m².<br> Après le décès de Joseph, Florentine hérita le château et le vendit en 1985 à un Français qui y habita pendant 21 ans. À sa pension, celui-ci retourna à ses racines françaises et ce prestigieux château, toujours dans son état d'origine, fut acheté par Joris et Marie-Josée Van den Bruel-Wouters qui décidèrent d'offrir à d'autres la possibilité de jouir de cet endroit magnifique et de son superbe environnement en ouvrant une maison d'hôtes. <br> <br> C'est pourquoi nous vous invitons à venir goûter la nostalgie des années 1900, pendant une semaine, un mid-week ou un week-end, dans une atmosphère familiale et conviviale, au Château de Heyde dijck. <br> <br> De tout cœur, nous vous souhaitons la BIENVENUE. </p> <p> <a href="/content/en/home-en.html">Englisch</a> Averbode, the 1900s.... even back then famed among tourists for its peace and tranquillity. Averbode, its abbey, forest and moorland! To this day Averbode and its immediate vicinity still proudly boast many thousands of hectares of nature reserve.<br> <br> It was in 1903 that Mr Leopold Govaerts and his spouse, Marie-Josephine Houbrechts, built their castle right in the heart of this scenic area.<br> Mr Govaerts made his fortune trading in timber supports he sourced in Wallonia and Northern France and sold to the coal mines in Limburg where they were used to brace the mine shafts. However, the couple’s happiness was short-lived. At a young age Leopold, father of one, was murdered while on a business trip to Wallonia. Slain by robbers, his lifeless body was recovered from the Meuse. Not long after, his pregnant wife died giving birth to their second child. Jozef, a mere toddler and Florentine, a little newborn were left orphans. They were looked after by a family member who raised them at the castle.<br> Jozef, Master of Heyde dijck Castle, remained a bachelor and spent his life at the castle together with his maid "Sofie".<br> <br> Florentine married an architect from Hasselt. Their marriage remained a childless one.<br> In 1965 the castle park, covering some 20 hectares, was cut up into lots and developed. Today 6,400 square metres of parkland remain. <br> When Jozef passed away, his sister Florentine inherited the castle and sold it to a Frenchman in 1985. The new owner inhabited the castle for 21 years but come retirement he decided to sell up and go back to his French roots. The stunning castle which had retained all its original features was bought by Joris and Marie-Josée Van den Bruel – Wouters.
